grid from ear to ear

Found this interesting new tumblr exploring issues between organic and geometric forms. It's a pretty specific topic but it immediately made me think of Koori possum skin cloaks.

I'm wondering if this blog will help me talk about the work of artists like Lee Darroch (Yorta Yorta/ Mutti Mutti/Trawlwoolway), Vicki Couzens(Keeray/Woorroong/ Gunditjmara), Kelly Koumalatsos (Wegaia/Wamba Wamba), Gayle Maddigan (Wamba Wamba/Dhudhuroa/Nyeri Nyeri) and Wally Cooper (Yorta Yorta/Moidaban).

These artists have all been involved in making possum skin cloaks (made by sewing individual possum skins together to make quilt-like cloaks) The skins are square-like in shape but I would not say "geometric". Designs are drawn on the inside (the side without fur) and traditionally would have related to the land and the tribe that the wearer came from. For more info you can see some of these beautiful works at the Koori Heritage Trust.
